An IT Cost Benchmark analysis is a useful exercise that helps organisations compare their cost performance vs their peer group. However, many a times I’ve noticed that it can be discarded for very valid reasons. The key reasons are:

1. The data isn’t accurate
2. The modelling isn’t accurate
3. Like-for-like costs aren’t being compared
4. The selected peer group is not appropriate
